Obviously the ipmi interface cannot establish layer 2 connectivty because of this. After a good amount of googling, I can't figure out how to find the correct IPMI mac address. I am running centos6.5 on a supermicro server. The Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) is a standardized computer system interface used by system administrators for out-of-band management of computer systems and monitoring of their operation.
- Boot up and enter BIOS setup:
Now, the BMC/IPMI controller should appear on the list: Microsoft Generic IPMI compliant device. Test with the servers's management utilities if you can read the logs, sensors's values, etc. Tested on Lenovo TS430 and it worked with the DSA utility. The IPMI Management Utilities project provides a series of utilities that perform common IPMI server management functions, such as viewing the firmware log (ipmiutil sel), or configuring the IPMI LAN & PEF features (ipmiutil lan).
When the hardware boots, you will be presented with the opportunity to enterBIOS Setup:
You'll want to strike <F1> with gusto until the screen clears andBootingtoSetup. appears.
- Enable Remote Console Redirection:
When the BIOS configuration loads, select DevicesandI/OPorts. SetSerialPortA to Autoconfigure:
Next, select RemoteConsoleRedirection and set as such:
You may want to leave the TextEmulation and KeyboardEmulationoptions as ANSI, which, if you're lucky, will draw nice ANSI pipe boxesinstead of these ugly asterisks. Oddly enough this works fine for me on DellPE1950s, but never draws correctly on the x3550. YMMV.

- Assuming you're going to PXE boot, enable PXE on Planar Ethernet 1:
Select StartOptions.
The x3550 doesn't support 802.1q VLAN Tagging on the management interface, soyou're going to have to either use the 2nd interface for the OS, or put boththe management and OS on the same subnet. Choose Planar Ethernet 1 or 2accordingly, here:
Msi motherboard driver for xp. Back out to the main BIOS screen with an <ESC>.
- Configure the BMC
Select AdvancedSetup, then select BaseboardManagementController(BMC)Settings. It should look like this:
Select BMCNetworkConfiguration and configure it for your network.Examples, of course, your configuration will be different.
Then select SaveNetworkSettingsinBMC.
- Create an IPMI user:
Select UserAcccountSettings:
Disable NULL and create a new user with Administrator privileges. You can figure that out without me pasting screens, right?
Make sure you select <<SaveUserAccountSettingstoBMC>> rather thanjust backing out with <ESC>.
Once users are configured, <ESC> out ot the main BIOS menu.
- Save and exit:
Strike <ESC> to pop up the Exit menu, and select Yes...
Windows Ipmi Driver
The host reboots.
Enable Ipmi Driver
